Conover Area Has Lots of Trails to Offer!
Free Celebration at Conover’s Community Park – 11:30-3 Sunday, May 29th
The event, “A Ride in the Park” is a celebration of our local trails and will include a ribbon-cutting for the town’s new biking and walking trail and information booths on Conover’s wide range of recreational offerings.
A Ride in the Park will also feature children’s games, raffles including a 50/50 raffle, food and drink, and a prize for the first 50 people who try out the new bike-ped trail.
Proceeds of ice cream float sales and the sale of special event t-shirts will be divided among the four recreational trail groups hosting the event with the towns of Conover and Phelps: Great Headwaters Trails Foundation, the Landover ATV-UTV Club, the Sno-Buddies, and Vilas County Equestrian Trails. Corporate sponsors Cedar Crest and Sprecher are providing ingredients for the ice cream floats.
Various Conover businesses are underwriting the cost of the t-shirts, which are already on sale in various places in Conover.
At Ride in the Park, Conover Fire & Rescue will be selling food and beer. Proceeeds from those sales will go to them.
Various booths and displays will offer information about the Conover-Phelps bike trail and SepTimber Ride, the new equestrian campground and trails, ATV routes and trails, snowmobile trails, and dual sports plans of the Headwaters Dual Sports Club.
“Vilas County cares about your safety!” is a secondary theme of Ride in the Park. The county’s Recreational Trails Safety Committee will have information on safe practices for motorized and nonmotorized trail and road sports, and for water activities. A second county display will provide details about the proposed Torch Lake campground, and the expansion of groomed cross country ski trails south of the Conover park.
There will also be information on birding and wildflowers in the area, and a guided wildflower ride on the new trail will start from the park at about 1:30.
The ribbon-cutting at noon will officially open the first section of the Conover-Phelps biking and walking trail.
The ceremony will include State Representative Rob Swearingen, County Board chairman Ron De Bruyne, town officials from Conover and Phelps, and representatives from the state Department of Transportation, Department of Tourism, and Department of Natural Resources. There will also be news on the progress of completing the entire bike-ped trail from Conover to Phelps.
