Vista Lake Biking Trails - Yours to Discover, Yours to Enjoy!
The Vista Lake Trails in Phelps provide an abundance of outdoor activities for any season. Not only is this mostly gravel trail perfect for exploring by bike, it also offers opportunities for bird watching, animal observation, and snowshoeing.
There are 3 loops to the Vista Lake Trails, with trails ranging from gently rolling to hilly and varying from paved to gravel to hard-packed sandy loam. Trail 1 is 2.9 miles long, looping around Vista Lake. Trail 2 is a 6.8 mile bike route, running on Hunters Road and Deerskin Road. This is a beautiful, quiet ride with huge trees towering over the route. Trail 3 is 13.1 miles for those interested in a longer scenic ride, coming near Imagene Lake, Dewey Lake, and crossing the Deerskin River.

Join the Phelps Annual Twin Triathlon
Foster your competitive side by participating in the annual Twin Triathlon in Phelps. The Twin Tri includes a 8K paddle on North Twin Lake, followed by a 16K bike and a 5K run through the Vista Lakes Trails. This family-friendly event is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the wonderful nature that Wisconsin has to offer!
Conover-Phelps Biking
Great Headwaters Trail, a local organization dedicated to the development of a major family-friendly bike-ped trail system for all of eastern Vilas County, is hard at work connecting the two communities of Conover and Phelps. The finished product will be an 11 mile paved trail, and this is just one part of the Vilas Country trail system.
The first 8.7 miles of the Conover-Phelps trail is completed and open for enjoyment, with the last 2.3 miles in the works.
