Local Tip: Grouse Hunting in Cheauamegon-Nicolet National Forest
Northern Wisconsin has one of the largest ruffed grouse populations in the U.S.; It’s no wonder that grouse hunting attracts hunters from all over the country to Phelps. To find a good ruffed grouse location, seek out the densest woody cover available. This is usually the quickest way to locate the prey in a new hunting area.
The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest borders Phelps, along with state and county land. There are large tracks of public land for non-residents and residents alike to hunt on if you don’t have access to private land.
