1. Bike from Phelps to U.S. Highway 2
This ride, just under 30 miles, runs from downtown Phelps to US Hwy 2 in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The route features smooth pavement with typically very little traffic. You will pass by the historic Military Hill Fire Tower, one of the last of it’s kind still standing in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. This tower, built in 1936, is one of the highest points in Wisconsin. You will also ride past the beautiful shores of Smoky Lake, a 610 acre freshwater lake brimming with bass and bluegill.
2. Phelps/Fishel Road Loop Bike Route
With great pavement and a rolling terrain, this 33 mile bike route takes you down a rustic country road that will remind you of days gone by. Pass by Robinson Lake and Elvoy Creek on your travels, as well as Whataview Farm where there is always something to see. This is also a great ride to take from Spectacle Lake Campground, which offers wooded camp sites with all the necessities and a sandy beach area with an incredible view.
3. Phelps – Land O’Lakes – Conover Loop Bike Route
This 37.9 mile bike route takes you through Phelps, Land O’Lakes and Conover, as well as down rolling country roads with plenty of sights and great stops. There is a bike trail along Highway B, complete with a gazebo and picnic tables on the trail, and Highway K has more hilly conditions than the beginning of the route. You will ride right past the shores of Lac Vieux Desert, Landing Lake, and Black Oak Lake amongst several other freshwater lakes. The ride will also take you over the Wisconsin River.
Stop in Sunrise Lodge on West Shore Road for a bite to eat and then grab a beverage and amazing view of North Twin Lake with a visit to Dublin Sports Bar & Grill on the last leg of the journey. And the perfect finish to a great ride – an ice cream shake at Sweets, Treats & More in downtown Phelps!
