Radio Club To Assist with Phelps Twin Triathlon

Triathlon in Vilas County Partners with Radio Club

The Phelps Chamber welcomes the support and assistance of the Vilas County Amateur Radio Club for this year’s Twin Triathlon to be held in August.

The Vilas County Amateur Radio Club was formed in May of 2015 and started with just a few members. Since then, it has grown to 85 members that have been active in multiple events, in Vilas County and surrounding areas. These include the GRAABR bike tour, sled dog races in Merrill, and the Ironline Sled Dog and Fat Bike Races in Iron River.

The club was formed to promote the hobby of Amateur Radio with particular focus on public service and coordination with Local and State Amateur Radio Emergency Services. Several members are trained for emergency situations that may require radio communication.

The group will be assisting the Phelps Chamber with the triathlon by stationing members along the route to ensure the safety of participants.

“We’re very excited to have the Radio Club joining us for this new event. Their help is so valuable to us because we want to make sure that each participant can enjoy the race without worrying about safety.” Chamber Director Celeste Hendrickson shared.
