The 2015 Phelps Maple Syrup Fest will feature a maple syrup judging contest to select the “Northwoods Maple Syrup of the Year”!
Do you tap your maple trees? Do you cook the sap and bottle the delicious syrup to enjoy throughout the year? If so, consider entering the Phelps Maple Syrup Judging Contest and see how your syrup stacks up (pancake pun intended)!
The 4th Annual Phelps Maple Syrup Fest will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Phelps School in Phelps, Wisconsin. Once again this year, the festival will feature a maple syrup judging contest to select the “Northwoods Maple Syrup of the Year,” with entries sought from local maple syrup producers.
Submit Your Maple Syrup for Prizes!
Three categories of syrup will be judged: Light, Medium and Dark. Each category will be judged separately and a winner chosen for each; then those three winners will compete against each other for the title of “Northwoods Maple Syrup of the Year.” Awards will be provided to the winners.
The syrups will be judged on density, clarity, flavor, and color, as well as the bottle and label. To enter, bring one pint of syrup to the Phelps Chamber of Commerce office prior to April 11, 2015 or deliver entries to the Phelps School by 9:00 a.m. on the day of the event. There is no charge to enter, but only one entry per person.
Judging of the contest will take place at noon and winners will be announced thereafter. The maple syrup judging contest has been well-attended and enjoyed by visitors each year.
The Phelps Maple Syrup Fest features an entire day of free family-friendly activities including an arts and crafts show, hands-on tree-tapping demonstrations, tours of local sugar bushes, and raffle prizes including an 18.5 horsepower 38” Husqvarna lawn tractor, a maple syrup starter kit, and a Weber charcoal grill.
