Chilly Charlie Presents Donation to Local Fire & EMS Departments
Chilly Charlie, mascot of the Northwoods BLIZZARD BLAST, recently presented a $15,000 check to area Fire & EMS Departments at the organization’s Sponsor Appreciation Party. Event Chairman Lanny Studdard awarded one third of the proceeds to each of the representatives from Conover, Land O’Lakes and Phelps Fire & EMS Departments. Funds were raised in conjunction with the winter festival held at the Conover Community Park on February 13th.
In other presentations at the party, Studdard thanked all the volunteers on the Planning and Event Committees and the many student and community volunteers who came out to help on the chilly day. He then awarded the Northwoods Blizzard Blast Volunteer of the Year trophy to Planning Committee member Sharon Olander. Receiving the honor, Olander stated she shared the award with all the other many volunteers and thanked the area communities for their tremendous support of the event.
Studdard also awarded a check for $100 to Connie McArdle, co-owner of Sand Lake Pub in Phelps. The tavern won 1st Place in the sales contest held in conjunction with promotion of the Northwoods BLIZZARD BLAST Coupon Book. Accepting the prize money, McArdle thanked the organization for their efforts in support of the Fire & EMS volunteers. She generously donated her winning funds back to support the 2017 event.
A donation designated for future park improvements was accepted by Conover Town Supervisor, Karl Jennrich. In closing, Studdard thanked the generous sponsors for their contributions toward the 2016 Northwoods BLIZZARD BLAST.
The not-for-profit organization’s mission statement is to CREATE an annual winter festival, CELEBRATE all that the season has to offer in our area, and CONNECT our COMMUNITIES through an economic, social and tourism event for the benefit of all in our northwoods.
