NEW EVENTS PLANNED FOR NORTHWOODS BLIZZARD BLAST
Several new events will be happening at the Northwoods Blizzard Blast on February 18th. The winter festival is held at the Conover Community Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cross-Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, and Ice Hockey…
The Blizzard Blast X-Country Fun Ski will take off from the trail head of the newly expanded Pioneer Creek trail on the south end of the park. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Skiers of all abilities may choose from two guided tours departing at 10:15 and meandering through scenic Vilas County Forest lands. Join in the 1.5 mile loop or cruise the 4.5 mile loop.
For hockey enthusiasts, Blizzard Blast “Slap Shot” will give them a chance to try their luck on the ice rink. Contestants attempt a shot on goal to win prizes.
Snowshoe experts from the Hiker Box will be on hand to demonstrate the sport of snowshoeing. Novices who wish to try it themselves will be able to test their abilities outside of the store.
And All of Your Winter Fun Favorites…
Favorite events returning this year include the snow sculpting competition, ice bowling, snowshoe baseball and recliner races. Children will enjoy the “Dogsled Dash” event, pony rides, face painting and archery. The sledding hill will host a snowboard demonstration. Horse drawn sleigh rides will take visitors on scenic tours through the woods.
The Blizzard Blast Artisan Bazaar will be held in the Conover Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All vendors feature handcrafted items. A sampling of the products available includes alpaca knitwear, hand-carved wooden creations, jewelry designed from nature’s own finds and wildlife art. Also available will be artisan breads and cheeses, locally roasted coffee, delicious dips and spreads and hand-made toffee. Native American beadwork will be featured along with chain saw carvings in progress.
Parking and heated restrooms are accessible at the park. Sandwiches, snacks, S’mores and beverages are available at the event.
Enter Your Snowman to Win $$$ Prizes!
In conjunction with the event, the Northwoods Blizzard Blast Snowman Building Contest is open for entries through February 16th. Contestants may build a snowman, snow girl, snow family or snow pet to showcase their creative talents and win cash prizes. Submissions may be made by taking a photo of your creation and entering it via the Northwoods Blizzard Blast page on Facebook.
