Maple Syrup & Honey Cooking Class Coming to Phelps

This year marks the 7th Annual Maple Syrup Fest in Phelps, and the festival will once again feature a cooking class focused on maple syrup and honey. The cooking class will take place during Phelps Maple Syrup Fest on April 7th at the Phelps School.

Learn how versatile and fun cooking with locally produced maple syrup and raw honey can be! Participants will learn how to select maple syrup and honey and will discover the many resources and recipes available. Not only do these natural sweeteners make a variety of dishes shine, they are both much healthier than sugar and other sweeteners.

Participants will also join in by preparing a variety of recipes for the class. Copies of all recipes will be included, and participants will enjoy tasting all the food prepared. Dishes that will be prepared include

  • Honey Maple Roasted Cornbread
  • Honey & Maple Roasted Peanut Butter
  • Maple Honey Granola
  • Honey & Maple Roasted Parsnips
  • Maple Syrup or Honey Ice Cream
  • Maple Syrup Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Instructor Dottie Reeder will guide the class through the delicious, easy recipes in this two-hour session. She is an engaging presenter and inclusive teacher who wants her students to enjoy what they are learning. Reeder is a popular teacher with in-depth knowledge on a variety of topics. She and her husband are Beekeepers and have harvested their own honey and maple syrup.

The cooking classes will be held in the Phelps High School on Saturday, April 7th from 10 – 12 p.m. and from 1 -3 p.m.. The cost is $15 per participant. Preregistration is required, and all class members must be at least 13 years of age, unless accompanied by an adult. Space is limited, so register early!
