Discover Wisconsin names Conover, Land O’Lakes and Phelps 2017 Choice Destinations
Discover Wisconsin, the state’s leading media brand and tourism TV show, will be shining the spotlight on winter activities in Conover, Land O’Lakes and Phelps in an upcoming episode. “Blizzard Blast in Vilas County” airs Saturday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. on Fox Sports Wisconsin and on WAOW TV 9 at 6:30 p.m. The episode is also available for online streaming at discoverwisconsin.com.
The Discover Wisconsin crew captured highlights of outdoor activities and events in Vilas County. The show kicks off with host Abbey Maillette setting out for a chilly snowmobiling adventure in Conover, and later attends the Frosty Club Radar Run event in Land O’Lakes.
In segment two, viewers will see scenic trail adventures filmed in Land O’Lakes, and the episode goes on to feature the Musher’s ball, where host Eric Paulsen takes a run at dog sledding at the Three Bear Sled Dog Races.
Later, host Mariah Haberman sets out on an ice fishing adventure on Lac Vieux Desert in Phelps. Haberman meets up with participants of the former Great Northern Ice Fishing Tournament to get some expert advice from guides and anglers.
The show comes to a close at the Northwoods Blizzard Blast at the Conover Community Park, where more adventure is in store for Maillette, Paulsen, and Haberman. Haberman tries her hand at snowshoe baseball, while Paulsen heads off to learn from a snowboarding expert and Maillette tosses a ball down the Ice Bowling lanes. The crew closes out the episode with some slipping and sliding at the Recliner Races in a bid to take home the coveted snowflake trophy.

“Blizzard Blast in Vilas County” will reach Discover Wisconsin’s broadcast network of 600,000 viewers across the upper Great Lakes region, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Northern Illinois, and Upper Michigan.
