Phelps Midwest Musky Classic Tournament Results
The 36th annual Midwest Musky Classic in Phelps was a big success this year! With 139 participants, this was nearly a record-breaking year for the tournament hosted by the Phelps Chamber, leading to bigger prizes and tougher competition than in recent years. With fairly mild weather, it was a great weekend to be out on the water. 18 muskies over 36” were registered throughout the weekend on Big Sand Lake, Lac Vieux Desert, and North and South Twin. Tournament prizes were awarded as follows:
1st Place: Jacob Munes – 48.25” from Lac Vieux Desert (Sunday Big Fish of the Day)
2nd Place: Roger Haack Jr – 47” from South Twin Lake (Saturday Big Fish of the Day)
3rd Place: Corey Henne – 46″ from Big Sand Lake (Friday Big Fish of the Day)
Munes took home a check for $1200 and will receive a Lax Replica of the winning fish at the next tournament, in addition to nearly $700 for Big Fish of the Day. Munes, who visited from Kaukauna Wisconsin for the tournament, also took home 1st place in 2013 with a 47.75” and was pleased to have beaten his own ‘Big Fish’.
2nd Place Roger Haack Jr, from Elgin Illinois, accepted his $800 check and Big Fish of the Day prize in front of his supportive family, all sporting “Team Roggie” shirts in the spirit of the event. 3rd place winner Corey Henne, a third generation participant from Brookfield Wisconsin, walked away with $600 and special bragging rights for having registered two qualifying muskies from Big Sand over the weekend.
The Phelps Chamber would like to thank the tournament sponsors, donors, judge boats, and volunteers for helping make this event possible.
