What a Weekend For Musky Hunters!

The 35th Annual Midwest Musky Classic has come to an end, and what a weekend it was!
The tournament kicked off on Friday with six muskies registered for the day. The weather couldn’t have been better, with temperatures averaging between 50 and 60 degrees for the afternoon and the sun shining. Big Sand Lake gave up Friday’s Big Fish of the Day, at 43.25″, caught by happy fisherman Brian Fons. It was looking like a close day, with three fish registering in at 42″, one each on Big Sand, Lac Vieux Desert, and North Twin Lake.
Saturday had the judges on Lac Vieux Desert hopping, as fish after fish was registered all day long. The temperatures were down slightly, but the sun continued to shine. With a total of 9 caught throughout the day, the Big Fish of the Day ended up going to Terry Ederer at 44″ on Lac Vieux Desert.
The tournament wrapped up on Sunday morning, with fishing from 8 am to 11 am. The Big Fish of the Day was awarded to Aaron Lang, for his catch of 41″ on South Twin. The participants and tournament organizers enjoyed a tasty lunch provided by Sunrise Lodge at the Phelps Fire Hall, while awaiting to hear the final results.
And the 2015 Midwest Musky Classic champions are…
Bob Weeks – 46 1/2″ – Lac Vieux Desert – Saturday
Rich Sebald – 45 3/4″ – Lac Vieux Desert – Sunday
Bruce Locher – 45 – Lac Vieux Desert – Sunday
Bob took home $1200 for 1st place, and will be receiving his winning replica, courtesy of Lax Reproductions, at the 2016 luncheon. 2nd and 3rd places were awarded respectively $700 and $500 cash prizes. With a near-record breaking amount of muskies registered in recent years, the Chamber is pleased with the outcome of the event. We are already looking forward to the 36th Annual and excited to make 2016’s tournament even bigger and better! A big congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to our generous sponsors!
