Phelps Women’s Club – Supporting the Community for 75 Years!

This fun Phelps event is hosted by the Phelps Women’s Club, with the support of many great sponsoring organizations and businesses. The Phelps Women’s Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to the support of the Phelps Community. Currently, the Club consists of 48 members, with membership open to anyone. And this February will mark the 75th anniversary of this wonderful club’s founding in 1940!womens club flowers

The Women’s Club began with the goal of inspiring a passion for reading in the community, and in 1934, facilitated the opening of a library to meet this goal. In 1949, the group purchased a building from the DNR and created a new home for the library. The Women’s Club maintained it for years, with help from operating volunteer Eleanor Ellis, and generous donations from Lillian Kerr and Vera and Elmer Wavering.

In 2001, the club published the Phelps Memories Book, which is available for sale at the Phelps Historical Museum. Today, half of the Women’s Club funds raised go in support to the Phelps Public Library, which has continued to grow over the years and expand its services and learning opportunities. Additionally, the club provides several scholarships to graduating high school students and adult continuing education. Amongst other community support, the Phelps Women’s Club is greatly appreciated for their volunteer efforts on keeping Phelps beautiful with their Phelps Beautification Fund. If you enjoy the lovely flower displays as you drive through Phelps, you have the Phelps Women’s Club to thank!
