Maple Syrup Fest Scholarship

Maple Syrup Fest to Award Scholarship

syrupPhelps annual Maple Syrup Fest has been growing over the past few years. 2015 included the introduction of the first ever Maple Syrup Fest scholarship. The committee announced early in 2015 that it would award one scholarship. Syrup sales by local producers and higher than expected attendance allowed the committee to award TWO scholarships to two exceptional local students, one from Phelps and one from Iron River, Michigan.

In 2016, the event was again a bit hit. A $500 scholarship was awarded to a Northland Pines student and a donation was made to the Phelps School Raise the Sound fundraiser for a new sound system.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2017 Maple Syrup Fest scholarship. Any student in the area planning on continuing their education in the fall may apply. This includes students from Phelps, Northland Pines, Three Lakes, Iron River and Watersmeet and any home-schooled students living in these areas.

The scholarship committee will be evaluating each application based on accurate completion and the student’s academic performance and community involvement. Those applicants that choose to volunteer for Maple Syrup Fest will receive special consideration.

The scholarship funds are raised through the sale of local syrup and honey at the event. $1 from each bottle goes to support our students continued education opportunities.
